As a registered social worker, I have a passion for helping people through their various struggles. My particular passion lies with helping young people and their families navigate through the joys and challenges of tween, teen and young adult years.
Working in high schools for over 7 years has allowed me to experience the inherent strength, and inherent vulnerability, that young people wrestle with. Finding strength in that vulnerability is the essence of my work towards helping my clients and their families find understanding, peace and growth.
Paramount, are my strong ethical codes, warm and approachable nature, willingness to learn and grow, and my passion for helping young people along their personal paths. To build trust and transparency with those I work with, I highly value integrity, honesty and humility.
I attend to my self-care through my yoga practice, cooking creatively with my husband and cuddling with my two beautiful cats.
About my work
I work primarily using the gently explorative Person Centred Approach, which places my client at the centre of their journey. I also integrate other approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy into my sessions when necessary to meet my clients’ needs.
I hold a holistic and systems based mind-set, acknowledging the important roles that family, friends, educators, and other caregivers play in young people's lives and development.
I enjoy working collaboratively with various support structures and personnel and have established good connections with my fellow professionals in private practice, legal systems, NGOs and education institutes.
I run a cash practise (cash/EFT before or on the day of appointment) which is covered by most Medical Aid providers. However, for reimbursement you will need to contact your service provider with your invoice that will include your ICD 10 code.
Counseling can feel daunting at first, but we will work together, at your pace. You are in charge of your journey and I am your guide.
The first session will be about getting acquainted and to see whether I am the best fit for you and your needs. Together we will plan how many sessions we may need and how frequently.
Short term counseling for something specific you may be struggling with can be between 4 and 8 sessions. Long term counseling may also be required and ending this process will be thoroughly discussed, as well as any alternative referrals I may suggest.
In some instances, it may be necessary to meet with relevant role players in your life, such as family or other supportive professionals. These meetings will be held with your consent.
Sessions are 60 minutes in length and will start promptly. Rates are available on request.
